The Most Basic Side Control Escape + 2 Sneaky Submissions
Sean Smith, BJJ Black Belt and Head Coach of Ultimate Martial Arts Academy in Cradley Heath is here filmed by the Warrior Collective giving a tutorial on different ways to cope with and work against larger, heavier opponents when stuck in bottom side control in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The video also features two sneaky submissions from bottom side control!
As a white belt this should be one of the very first escapes that you learn.
27 time world champion Renato Laranja teamed up with Jean Machado (Live the Mach life) to put together this street BJJ Fighting guide. It is packed with wisdom and will surely save you in a pinch.
Tonight one of the most exciting fights of the year is taking place at UFC 183: Silva vs Diaz.
Everyone is familiar with these two legends in regard to their MMA careers. Not everyone knows that both of these men are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belts.
This is one of those rare treasures that you find and wonder why you have never heard about it before. MMA not exciting enough for you? How about tag team MMA? This isn’t just any old backyard production (okay many of the fights take place in the sand, but that’s not the point). This fighting federation from Russia recently has gone international staging their first event in Brazil in 2014.
In this video series BJ explains that the secret to his meteoric rise was Brazilian Jiu Jitsu basics. In the video below he goes so far as to say that his entire game is basics.
For a fledgling white belt (and blue belts like myself), it is tremendously easy to get caught up in the flash of today’s BJJ. There is so much dynamic maneuvering going on and the advent of new and exciting guards, that it makes it difficult for a white belt to simply focus on the armbar from closed guard.
However white belt, this is a game of patience. There will plenty of time down the road to get as flashy as you would like. Take it from BJ Penn, fundamentals are your best friend!
It is an incredible story if you are a Jiu Jitsu lover. BJ tells all about rising up from his struggles growing up in Hilo, Hawaii to going on to becoming the first American BJJ Black Belt to ever win the World Championship (Mundials). Check out that match here.
Budo Jake of Budovideos.com answers a question from a Purple Belt living in Italy, who asks if he should give up everything to become a full-time BJJ athlete. Jake is straight forward and honest in his reply. He gives a conservative perspective, a non-conservative perspective, and finishes with the reality of the situation.
This video is among the first for Budo Jake’s new YouTube channel. The flagship Budovideos channel will remain the same. Jake wanted to start this new channel so that he could directly talk to his friends and fans who enjoy his work. I definitely recommend subscribing because Budo Jake constantly brings wisdom to the table.
The second Jiu Jitsu World League has been announced! This one is taking place in Las Vegas on May 9th, 2015. There is not much more information available as of now. The Jiu Jitsu World League this week created a Facebook event page to post announcements!
The first event seemed to be a big success. The athletes in attendance claimed to have a great time on Social Media. The videos that I saw had plenty of people in attendance and even some big stars like Ashton Kutcher came out. There was cool loud music to roll to and winning athletes got paid! BJJ Girl enjoyed participating in the event! Check out her write up which is featured at jjworldleague.com. It’s a great read!
The gentleman that run the league ask if we’d share this video with you all. It is a High-Def Cinema Edition Gi Championship Highlight from the first event. Enjoy!
We’ve all heard of fake black belts but how about a fake white belt? Sounds absurd right? Not to Alan Belcher and BJJ black belt friend Alex Vamos. In this video Alex comes to visit Alan’s academy.
They decide to play a prank on the competition team’s class by having Alex put on a white belt and then rolling with the advanced students. The laughter watching what happens is priceless. This is BJJ humor at it’s finest. Kudos to Alan Belcher for keeping it playful at his academy!
