5 classic videos of Jiu Jitsu and MMA legend Renzo Gracie!
Parabens, Feliz Aniversario!
Renzo Gracie was born on March 11, 1967, in Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. He is the grandson of Gracie Jiu Jitsu founder Carlos Gracie and son of 9th Dan BJJ black belt Robson Gracie, brother to Ralph and Ryan Gracie. Like most men in the Gracie family, Renzo started training Jiu Jitsu as an infant. He had formal instructor from many of the Gracie patriarchs, but to of his biggest influences were the legendary Rolls Gracie and Carlos Gracie Jr (the man who later awarded him his black belt).
The Renzo Gracie name is also a synonym of Vale-Tudo, the famous No Holds Barred style of fighting in Brazil that originated today’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Renzo’s first official fight was at the age of 25 in the Gracie Vale Tudo Challenge were he submitted his opponent Luiz Augusto Alvareda by rear naked choke.
Renzo pursued his fighting career moving to the US to compete where the sport was gaining recognition after the early UFC’s, he also opened his own academy in New York, a gym that rapidly became a reference in America and the world for high quality Jiu Jitsu. From this same academy Renzo Gracie forged fighters such as Matt Serra, John Danaher, Ricardo Cachorão, Shawn Williams, Jerry Rinaldi and many, many others. [source: BJJ Heroes]

And finally, some great Renzo Gracie advice:
Last night we posted the viral video of Ben “10” Nguyen being bullied at the weigh-ins by his opponent Julian “Julez The Jackal” Rabaud. Ben Nguyen simply smiled off the attempt to intimidate and when the fight happened he destroyed “The Jackal” in under 30 seconds. The fight took place at Nitro 11 almost exactly a year ago today.
Following the viral video below is Ben Nguyen’s “Ask Me Anything” regarding the ordeal!
I’m that guy who knocked out that tatted up jerk and made it to the front page of Reddit:
I’ve been a big time lurker here for 5+ years and now recently started posting. I am a professional MMA fighter, computer geek, and avid motorcycle rider. You could say I like doing what I like to do. My nationality is Vietnamese American from SOUTH DAKOTA and I am now chasing the dream Down Under! AMA!
EDIT: Holy crap, did not expect this to blow up and make it to the front page again. I need to buy a lotto ticket NOW!
EDIT #2: Needed to add South Dakota to my bio. The state doesn’t receive enough love.
EDIT #3: I love and have kittens named Tofu and Yuki! Don’t break Reddit!: http://imgur.com/Vne0eZi
EDIT #4: For the people asking what his response was after the fight, he said “I know he has skills but it was nothing but F***ing luck” http://themmacorner.com/2014/07/22/julian-julz-the-jackal-rabaud-a-tale-of-pain-and-glory/
EDIT #5: Doing an AMA might have been a bad thing to start at 2AM in the morning. Need to catch some z’s Reddit! I’ll be back on in a few hours to answer some more questions. G’night or should I say G’Day!
EDIT # 6: Ok, Lad Bible fine, BJPenn.com alright, but front page on Reddit for the past 4 hours?? GTFO! Am I dreaming??
EDIT #7: Just wanted to take the time to thank everyone on the interwebz for making this possible. Never in a million years would I thought I’d be doing my OWN AMA. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
EDIT #8: Still overwhelmed by the amount of support I’ve received and I am so thankful for it. It’s been an exciting 12 hours answering everyone’s questions. Thank you EVERYONE!

MMA Fighter Acts Tough At Weigh-ins, Then Gets Destroyed
The only way that you wouldn’t love this video is if you are the kind of person that likes to act tough at weigh-ins. Focus on keeping your belt instead of going for the Oscar’s Award.
Jiu Jitsu star Gabi Garcia won’t be making her mixed martial arts debut this month.
The nine-time Jiu Jitsu world champion and two-time ADCC gold medalist signed a contract with Brazilian promotion Jungle Fight to fight on March 28 in Sao Paulo, but decided to postpone her MMA debut to a future date.
Jungle Fight president Wallid Ismail confirmed the news to MMAFighting.com.
Garcia was originally set to compete for the first time in MMA on Dec. 23 in Tokyo, Japan, but Real Fight failed to find an opponent for the Brazilian.
A black belt under Fabio Gurgel, hasn’t lost a Jiu Jitsu or grappling match since 2009, Garcia plans on cutting down to 185 pounds for her first MMA bout.
Jungle Fight 76 takes place March 28 in Sao Paulo and marks the promotion’s debut on network television in Brazil. The fight card will be headlined by Elizeu Zaleski vs. Jose Diaz for the welterweight title, and features bantamweight champion Jonas Bilharinho trying to win another title, as he takes on Fabiano Nogueira for the 145-pound championship. Women’s strawweight champion Erika Almeida will also put her title on the line that night, facing Tania Pereda.
